$Amc Entmt Hldgs Inc Just a theory. if u were in their shoes, would you rather: 1. have billions of parked buy orders to eventually be released on the market where you can remove the buy button To suppress upward price movement or 2. Continue sinking further by adding to your short position which can possibly result in infinite losses when margin called without liquidity. Its my belief that they have been slowly covering while parking all the buy orders. this suppresses the price while gradually dropping their short position at risk of a short squeeze. They will release the parked orders eventually allowing the price to skyrocket. During that period, they will short it again while removing the buy button. its still better for them compared to having to accept infinite losses from a true short squeeze.
